The Hives - Hate To Say I Told You So (2000)

From the album Veni Vidi Vicious in 2000

Do what I want cause I can and if I don't
because I wanna be ignored by the stiff and the bored
because I'm gonna.
Spit and retrieve cause I give and receive
because I wanna gonna get through your head what the mystery man said
because I'm gonna.
Hate to say I told you so.
I do believe I told you so.
Now it's all out and you knew cause I wanted to.
Turn my back on the rot that's been planning the plot - because I'm gonna.
No need for me to wait - because I wanna.
No need two, three and too late - because I'm gonna.
Hate to say I told you so.
I do believe I told you so.
Do what I please gonna spread the disease
because I wanna gonna call all the shots for the "No"s and the "Not"s
because I wanna.
Ask me once I'll answer twice cause what I know I'll tell
because I wanna.
Sound device and lots of ice I'll spell my name out loud
because I wanna, oh yeah…

John Mayall - Crawling Up a Hill (1965)

From the album John Mayall Plays John Mayall in 1965

Every morning bout half past eight,
My Mummer wakes me says,"Don't be late",
Get to the office, tryin' to concentrate,
My life is just a slow train crawling up a hill.
So I stop one day to figure it out,
I'll quit my job without a shadow of a doubt,
To sing the blues that I know all about,
My life is just a slow train crawling up a hill.
Minute after minute,
Second after second,
Hour after hour goes by,
Working for a rich man,
Staying just a poor man,
Never stop to wonder why.
So here I am in London town,
A better scene I'm gonna be around,
The kind of music that won't bring me down,
My life is just a slow train crawling up a hill.
Minute after minute,
Second after second,
Hour after hour goes by,
Working for a rich man,
Staying just a poor man,
Never stop to wonder why.
So here I am in London town,
A better scene I'm gonna be around,
The kind of music that won't bring me down,
Life is just a slow train crawling up a hill

Red Hot Chili Peppers - Under the Bridge (1992)

From the album Blood Sugar Sex Magik in 1992

Sometimes I feel
Like I don't have a partner
Sometimes I feel
Like my only friend
Is the city I live in
The city of angels
Lonely as I am
Together we cry

I drive on her streets
'Cause she's my companion
I walk through her hills
'Cause she knows who I am
She sees my good deeds
And she kisses me windy
I never worry
Now that is a lie

I don't ever want to feel
Like I did that day
Take me to the place I love
Take me all the way

It's hard to believe
That there's nobody out there
It's hard to believe
That I'm all alone
At least I have her love
The city she loves me
Lonely as I am
Together we cry

I don't ever want to feel
Like I did that day
Take me to the place I love
Take me all that way

Under the bridge downtown
Is where I drew some blood
Under the bridge downtown
I could not get enough
Under the bridge downtown
Forgot about my love
Under the bridge downtown
I gave my life away.

Beastie Boys - Fight for Your Right (To Party!) (1987)

From the album Licensed to Ill in 1987

You wake up late for school - man you don't wanna go
You ask you mom, "Please?" - but she still says, "No!"
You missed two classes - and no homework
But your teacher preaches class like you're some kind of jerk

(chorus) You gotta fight for your right to party

You pop caught you smoking - and he said, "No way!"
That hypocrite - smokes two packs a day
Man, living at home is such a drag
Now your mom threw away your best porno mag (Bust it!)

(repeat chorus)

Don't step out of this house if that's the clothes you're gonna wear
I'll kick you out of my home if you don't cut that hair
Your mom busted in and said, "What's that noise?"
Aw, mom you're just jealous - it's the Beastie Boys!

(repeat chorus twice)

Motorhead - Ace Of Spades (1980)

From the album Ace Of Spades in 1980

If you like to gamble, I tell you I'm your man
You win some, lose some, it's - all - the same to me
The pleasure is to play, it makes no difference what you say
I don't share your greed, the only card I need is
The Ace Of Spades
The Ace Of Spades

Playing for the high one, dancing with the devil,
Going with the flow, it's all a game to me,
Seven or Eleven, snake eyes watching you,
Double up or quit, double stakes or split,
The Ace Of Spades
The Ace Of Spades

You know I'm born to lose, and gambling's for fools,
But that's the way I like it baby,
I don't wanna live forever,
And don't forget the joker!

Pushing up the ante, I know you've got to see me,
Read 'em and weep, the dead man's hand again,
I see it in your eyes, take one look and die,
The only thing you see, you know it's gonna be,
The Ace Of Spades
The Ace Of Spades

The Allman brothers Band - Pony Boy (1973)

From the album Brothers and Sisters in 1973

Don't worry for me
Well I'm all right
Lord knows I"m having,
A natural good time,
Pocket full of money
Gonna boogie all night;
There ain't nobody tell me that's crime

Chorus:
When morning comes and it's time to go
Pony boy carry me home
Pony boy carry me home.

Spoken:
All right mama,
Let me see you do that thing now

Band is jumping and so am I.
I'm just groovin', can't stop movin',
My ole man's got that ole eagle eye
But he is just waitin', we're celebratin'

Chorus

Spoken:
I feel a change coming on
Come on, mama!
Here it comes now
Papa's with you now;

Look out the door,
There beside that tree.
Well, that's my pony, looking after me,
Front feet doing the shuffle
Back feet, too.
Blow them good old Georgia blues.

Chorus

Count Five - Psychotic Reaction (1966)

From a single in 1966

I feel depressed, I feel so bad
'Cause you're the best girl that I ever had
I can't get your love, I can't get a fraction
Uh-oh, little girl, psychotic reaction
(shouted) And it feels like this!

[Instrumental break]

I feel so lonely night and day
I can't get your love, I must stay away
I need you girl, by my side
Uh-oh, little girl, would you like to take a ride, now
I can't get your love, I can't get satisfaction
Uh-oh, little girl, psychotic reaction

[Instrumental break]

She said, I dig you baby but I got to keep movin

Tired of this town again

Well I dont know what Ive been told
You never slow down, you never grow old
Im tired of screwing up, Im tired of goin down
Im tire of myself, Im tired of this town
Oh my my, oh hell yes
Honey put on that party dress
Buy me a drink, sing me a song,

Tired of this town again

T heres pidgeons down in market square
Shes standin in her underwear
Lookin down from a hotel room
Nightfall will be comin soon
Oh my my, oh hell yes
Youve got to put on that party dress
It was too cold to cry when I woke up al one
I hit the last number, I walked to the road

Yes - Yours Is No Disgrace (1971)

From the album The Yes Album in 1971

Yesterday a morning came, a smile upon your face
Caesar's palace, morning glory, silly human race
On a sailing ship to nowhere, leaving any place
If the summer change to winter, yours is no disgrace

Battleships confide in me and tell me where you are
Shining, flying, purple wolfhound, show me where you are
Lost in summer, morning, winter, travel very far
Lost in musing circumstances, that's just where you are

Yesterday a morning came, a smile upon your face
Caesar's palace, morning glory, silly human, silly human race
On a sailing ship to nowhere, leaving any place
If the summer change to winter, yours is no, yours is no disgrace
Yours is no disgrace, yours is no disgrace

Death defying, mutilated armies gather near
Crawling out of dirty holes, their morals, their morals disappear
Yesterday a morning came, a smile upon your face
Caesar's palace, morning glory, silly human, silly human, silly human race
On a sailing ship to nowhere, leaving any place
If the summer change to winter, yours is no, yours is no disgrace
Yours is no disgrace, yours is no disgrace

Jakob Dylan - Something Good This Way Comes (2008)

From the album Seeing Things in 2008

Got my window open wide
Got my window open wide
Got a good woman by my side
Got a good woman by my side

Now this kind of day
Has no night
Yeah
This kind of day
Has no night
Ain't got much on my mind
Ain't got much on my mind

'Cause I know
Something good this way comes

Now watching the streets
Filling up
Watching the streets filling up
In the shade of the summer sun
In the shade of the summer sun

Got sweet apple pie on the stove
Got sweet apple pie on the stove
The birds they're all flyin' low
The birds they're all flyin' low

'Cause they know
Something good this way comes

The trouble, doll
Is not moving mountains, but
Digging the ground that you're on
If it's true
That good fortune gives no chase
We got just what it takes

Collar up on my coat
Collar up on my coat
Trucks are pullin'
In for the show
Trucks are pullin'
In for the show

Grasshopper jump in the road
Grasshopper jump in the road
Kids they're all running home
The kids
They're all running home

'Cause they know
Something good this way comes
Yeah
Something good this way comes

The trouble, doll
Is not moving mountains, but
Digging the ground
That you're on
If it's true
That good fortune
Gives no chase
We got just what it takes
Got my window open wide
Got my window open wide
Got a good woman by my side
Got a good woman by my side

'Cause I know
Something good this way comes
Yeah
Something good this way comes
Yeah
Something good this way comes
Mmmm, mmm, mmmm

Hello, I saw you, I know you, I knew you
I think I can remember your name, name
Hello, I'm sorry, I lost myself
I think I thought you were someone else

(chorus)
Should we talk about the weather? (hi, hi, hi)
Should we talk about the government? (hi, hi, hi, hi)

Hello, how are you? I know you, I knew you
I think I can remember your name, name
Hello, I'm sorry, I lost myself
I think I thought you were someone else

You know I never knew that it could be so strange, strange
Hello, I'm sorry, I lost myself
I think I thought you were someone else

(repeat chorus)

Hi, hi, hi
Hi, hi, hi, hi
Hi, hi, hi
Hi, hi, hi, hi
Hi, hi, hi
Hi, hi, hi, hi

Therapy? - Nowhere (1995)

From the album Troublegum in 1994

Heaven kicked you out
You wouldn't wear a tie
Staring at some pictures by yourself
At something that you want to have but will never get

Going nowhere
Going nowhere
Going nowhere
Going nowhere

You get drunk every night
You can't get drunk on life
Shouting at the world you'll never change
But it's what's inside you've got to rearrange

Going nowhere
Going nowhere
Going nowhere
Going nowhere

Heaven kicked you out
Heaven kicked you out

Making up for what you never had
Losing every single thing you've ever had

Going nowhere
Going nowhere
Going nowhere
Going nowhere
Going nowhere
Going nowhere
Going nowhere
Going nowhere

J.J. Cale - If you're ever in Oklahoma (1972)

From the album Really in 1972

If you’re ever in oklahoma
You better move around at night
’cause they don’t like no transportation
Slipping by in-and-out of sight
And they don’t care about dallas, texas
And they don’t care about wichita
If you’re ever in oklahoma
You better move around the law
They got fines and they got plenty
They’ll hold you up for days on end
Threaten your life and take your money
Make you think you’re there to stay

Fugazi - Waiting Room (1989)

From the album 13 Songs in 1989

I am a patient boy
I wait, I wait, I wait, I wait
My time is like water down a drain
Everybody's moving,
Everybody's moving,
Everybody's moving, moving, moving, moving
Please don't leave me to remain
In the waiting room
I don't want the news
I cannot use it
I don't want the news
I won't live by it
Sitting outside of town
Everybody's always down
Tell me why?
Because... they can't get up
Ahhh... Come on and get up
Come on and get up
But I don't sit idly by
Ahhh...
I'm planning a big surprise
I'm gonna fight for what I want to be
I won't make the same mistakes
Because I know
Because I know how much time that wastes
And Function
Function is the key
To the the waiting room
I don't want the news
I cannot use it
I don't want the news
I won't live by it
Sitting outside of town
Everybody's always down
Tell me why?
Because... they can't get up
Ahhh... Come on and get up
Up for the waiting room
Sitting in the waiting room
Ahhh...
Sitting in the waiting room
Ahhh...
Sitting in the waiting room
Ahhh...
Sitting in the waiting room
Ahhh...
Tell me why?
Because... they can't get up

Dexys Midnight Runners - Come On Eileen (1982)

From the album Too-Rye-Ay in 1982

Poor old johnny ray
Sounded sad upon the radio
He moved a million hearts in mono
Our mothers used
To sing along, whod blame them
Youre grown (a grown up), so grown (so grown up), now I must say more than ever
(come on eileen)
Go toora loora toora loo rye aye
And we can sing just like our fathers

[chorus]:
Come on eileen, oh I swear (what he means)
At these moments, you mean everything
With you in that dress, oh my thoughts I confess
Verge on dirty
Ah come on eileen

Come on eileen !

These people round here wear beaten down eyes
Sunk in smoke dried faces
Theyre so resigned to what their fate is
But not us (no never), no not us (no never)
We are far too young and clever
Remember
Go toora loora toora loo rye aye
Eileen Ill hum this tune forever (x2)

Come on eileen oh I swear (what he means)
Ah come on, lets take off everything
That pretty red dress, oh eileen tell him yes
Ah come on lets, ah come on eileen
Come on eileen oh I swear (what he means)
At these moments you mean everything

Come on eileen too-loo rye-aye
Come on eileen too-loo rye-aye
Toora toora-too-loora

We are far too young and clever
And things wont ever change

Come on eileen, oh I swear (what he means)
At this moment, you mean everything to me

You mean everything

Martha & The Vandellas - Nowhere To Run (1965)

From the album Dance Party in 1965

Nowhere to run to, baby
Nowhere to hide
Got nowhere to run to, baby
Nowhere to hide

It's not love
I'm running from
It's the heartaches
That I know will come

'Cause I know
You're no good for me
But you`ve become
A part of me

Everywhere I go
Your face I see
Every step I take
You take with me, yeah

Nowhere to run to, baby
Nowhere to hide
Got nowhere to run to, baby
Nowhere to hide

I know you're
No good for me
But free of you
I'll never be, no

Each night as I sleep
Into my heart you creep
I wake up feeling sorry I met you
Hoping soon that I'll forget you

When I look in the mirror
And comb my hair
I see your face
Just a-smiling there

Nowhere to run
Nowhere to hide
Got nowhere to run to, baby
Nowhere to hide

I know you're
No good for me
But you've become
A part of me

How can I fight a lover
That's sugar sweet
When it's so deep, so deep
Deep inside of me

My love reaches so high
I can't get over it
It's so wide
I can't get around it, no

Nowhere to run
Nowhere to hide
From you, baby
Just can't get away
No matter how I try

I know you're no good for me
But free of you I'll never be

Nowhere to run to, baby
Nowhere to hide
Got nowhere to run to, baby
Nowhere to hide
Got nowhere to run
Got nowhere to run

Son Volt - Caryatid Easy (1997)

From the album Straightaways in 1997

And I remember one faded summer
And I remember the curtain call
Waiting outside, watching the time fly

Way you roll the dice
Leaves my eyes
There is no way to hide
You live inside my mind
You play
A caryatid easy
Leaves my eyes
A caryatid easy
Way you roll the dice, the dice

Walking in line
With this life's shadow
The spot line's surprise
Are guarding from gallows

Solid stone wall
Wouldn't turn back the time at all

There is no compromise
Now all the names are called
Senses summoned to realize
They live inside my mind
They play

Consumed by this crowd scene
Breaking out this dislocated dream

Educated
With poison laughter
Seems like high times
Every morning after

Waiting outside
Watching the time fly

Way you roll the dice
Leaves my eyes
There is no way to hide
You live inside
My mind
You play

Pearl Jam - Alive (1991)

From the album Ten in 1991

And if so...if so...who answers...who answers...

I, oh, Im still alive
Hey i, oh, Im still alive
Hey i, but, Im still alive
Yeah i, ooh, Im still alive
Yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah yeah

The Hollies - Look Through Any Window (1965)

From a single in 1965

Look through any window, yeah
What do you see?
Smiling faces all around
Rushing through the busy town

Where do they go?
Moving on their way
Walking down the highways and the byways
Where do they go?
Moving on their way
Are people with their shy
ways and their sly ways

You can see the little children all around
You can see the little
ladies in their gowns

When you look through any window, yeah
Any time of day
See the drivers on the roads
Button down their heavy loads

Where do they go?
Moving on their way
A-driving down the highways and the byways
Where do they go?
Moving on their way
Are drivers with their shy
ways and their sly ways

You can see the little children all around
You can see the little
ladies in their gowns

When you look through any window, yeah
What do you see?
Smiling faces all around
Rushing through the busy town

Moving on their way...
Ooh...moving on their way...
Where do they go...?
Moving on their way...ooh...

The Shins - Australia (2007)

From the album Wincing the Night Away in 2007

(In a faux German accent):Time to put the eargoggles on
No!

La La La La,
La La La La,
La La La La,

Born to multiply,
Born to gaze into night skies,
All you wants one more Saturday.
Well look here, until then
They gonna buy your life’s time
So keep your wick in the air and your feet in the fetters
‘Til the day
We come in doing cartwheels
We all crawl out by ourselves
And your shape on the dance floor
Will have me thinking such filth and gouge my eyes.

You be damned to be one of us, girl,
Faced with the dodo’s conundrum
I felt like I could just fly
But nothing happened every time I tried.

A dual tone on the wall
The selfless fool who hoped he’d save us all
never dreamt of such sterile hands.
You keep them folded in your lap,
Or raise them up to beg for scraps,
You know he's holding you down
With the tips of his fingers just the same.
Will you be pulled from the ocean,
But just a minute too late,
Or changed by a potion,
And find a handsome young mate
For you to love.

You'll be damned to pining through the windowpanes,
You know you'd trade your life for any ordinary Joe’s,
Well do it now or grow old.
Your nightmares only need a year or two to unfold.

Been alone since you were twenty-one,
You haven't laughed since January.
You try and make like this is so much fun,
But we know it to be quite contrary.

La la la la la la
Dare to be one of us, girl,
Facing the android's conundrum,
I felt like I should just cry,
But nothing happens every time I take one on the chin,
You're humoring your cote,
You don't know how long I've been,
Watching the lantern dim,
Starved of oxygen,
So give me your hand,
And let's jump out the window.

Jim Croce - Workin' at the Car Wash Blues (1973)

From the album I Got a Name in 1973

Well, I had just got out from the county prison
Doin ninety days for non-support
Tried to find me an executive position
But no matter how smooth I talked
They wouldnt listen to the fact that I was a genius
The man say, we got all that we can use.
Now igot them steadily depressin, low down mind messin
Working at the car wash blues

Well, I should be sittin in an air conditioned office in a swivel chair
Talkin some trash to the secretaries
Sayin, here, now mama, come on over here.
Instead, Im stuck here rubbin these fenders with a rag
And walkin home in soggy old shoes
With them steadily depressin, low down mind messin
Workin at the car wash blues

You know a man of my ability
He should be smokin on a big cigar
But till I get myself straight I guess Ill just have to wait
In my rubber suit a-rubbin these cars

Well, all I can do is a shake my head
You might not believe that its true
For workin at this end of niagara falls
Is an undiscovered howard hughes
So baby, dont expect to see me
With no double martini in any high-brow society news
Cause I got them steadily depressin, low down mind messin
Workin at the car wash blues
So baby, dont expect to see me
With no double martini in any high-brow society news
Cause I got them steadily depressin, low down mind messin
Workin at the car wash blues
Yeah I got them steadily depressin, low down mind messin
Workin at the car wash blues

Bruce Springsteen - I'm On Fire (1985)

From the album Born in the U.S.A. in 1985

Hey little girl is your daddy home
Did he go away and leave you all alone
I got a bad desire
I'm on fire
Tell me now baby is he good to you
Can he do to you the things that I do
I can take you higher
I'm on fire
[Más Letras en es.mp3lyrics.org/c9q]
Sometimes it's like someone
tooh a knife baby
Edgy and dull and cut a six-inch valley
Through the middle of my skull
At night I wake up with the
sheets soaking wet
And a freight train running through the
Middle of my head
Only you can cool my desire
I'm on fire

Fats Domino - I'm Walking (1959)

From a single in 1959

I'm walkin', yes indeed and I'm talkin' 'bout you and me
I'm hopin' that you'll come back to me, uh uh

I'm lonely as I can be, I'm waitin' for your company
I'm hopin' that you'll come back to me.

What'cha gonna do when the well runs dry
You gonna run away and hide
I'm gonna be right by your side
For you, pretty baby, I'd even die.

I'm walkin', yes indeed and I'm talkin' 'bout you and me
I'm hopin' that you'll come back to me.

I'm walkin', yes indeed and I'm talkin' 'bout you and me
I'm hopin' that you'll come back to me, uh uh

I'm lonely as I can be, I'm waiting for your company
I'm hopin' that you'll come back to me.

What'cha gonna do when the well runs dry
You gonna sit right down and cry
What'cha gonna do when I say bye bye
All you're gonna do is dry your eye

I'm walkin', yes indeed and I'm talkin' 'bout you and me
I'm hopin' that you'll come back to me.

Gene Vincent - Be Bop A Lula (1956)

From a single in 1956

Well, be-bop-a-lula, she's my baby
Be-bop-a-lula, I don't mean maybe
Be-bop-a-lula, she's my baby
Be-bop-a-lula, I don't mean maybe
Be-bop-a-lula, she's my baby love
My baby love, my baby love

Well, she's the girl in the red blue jeans
She's the queen of all the teens
She's the one that I know
She's the one that loves me so

Say be-bop-a-lula, she's my baby
Be-bop-a-lula, I don't mean maybe
Be-bop-a-lula, she's my baby
Be-bop-a-lula, I don't mean maybe
Be-bop-a-lula, she's my baby love
My baby love, my baby love

Well, she's the one that gots that beat
She's the one with the flyin' feet
She's the one that walks around the store
She's the one that gets more more more

Be-bop-a-lula, she's my baby
Be-bop-a-lula, I don't mean maybe
Be-bop-a-lula, she's my baby
Be-bop-a-lula, I don't mean maybe
Be-bop-a-lula, she's my baby love
My baby love, my baby love

Little Richard - lucille (1957)

From a single in 1957

Lucille, you won't do your sisters will,
Lucille, you won't do your sisters will,
You ran off and married, but I love you still.

Lucille, please come back where you belong,
Lucille, please come back where you belong,
I've been good to you baby, please don't lead me along.

I woke up this mornin', Lucille was not in sight,
I asked my friends about her but all their lips was tight,
Lucille, please come back where you belong,
I've been good to you baby, please don't lead me along.

Lucille, baby, satisfy my heart,
Lucille, baby, satisfy my heart,
I played love with you baby, and gave you such a wonderful start.

Carl Perkins - Blue Suede Shoes (1955)

From a single in 1956

Well it's one for the money, two for the show
Three to get ready now go cat go.
But don't you, step on my blue suede shoes.
You Can do anything but lay off of my blue suede shoes

You can knock me down, step on my face
Slander my name all over the place.
Do anything that you wanna do
But uh uh honey lay off of my shoes.
You can do anything but lay off of my blue suede shoes.

You can burn my house, you can steal my car
Drink my liquor from an old fruit jar
[ Carl Perkins Lyrics are found on www.songlyrics.com ]
Do anything that you wanna do
But uh uh honey lay off of my shoes
But don't you, step on my blue suede shoes.
Well you can do anything but lay off of my blue suede shoes.

Well it's one for the money, two for the show
Three to get ready, Now go cat go
But don't you, step on my blue suede shoes.
You can do anything but lay off of my blue suede shoes.

Well it's blue, blue, blue suede shoes
Blue, blue, blue suede shoes yeh!
Well blue, blue, blue suede shoes
Blue, blue, blue suede shoes
Well you can do anything but lay off of my blue suede shoes.

Tony Bennet - Fly Me To The Moon (1965)

From a single in 1965

Fly me to the moon
Let me play among the stars
Let me see what spring is like
On a-Jupiter and Mars
In other words, hold my hand
In other words, baby, kiss me

Fill my heart with song
And let me sing for ever more
You are all I long for
All I worship and adore
In other words, please be true
In other words, I love you

(instrumental - first verse)

Fill my heart with song
Let me sing for ever more
You are all I long for
All I worship and adore
In other words, please be true
In other words, in other words

I love you

Mel Torme - Blue Moon (2003)

From the album The Ultimate Mel Torme in 2003

Blue moon
You saw me standing alone
Without a dream in my heart
Without a love of my own
Blue moon
You know just what i was there for
You heard me saying a prayer for
Someone i really could care for

And then there suddenly appeared before me
The only one my arms will hold
I heard somebody whisper please adore me
And when i looked to the moon it turned to gold

Blue moon
Now i'm no longer alone
Without a dream in my heart
Without a love of my own

And then there suddenly appeared before me
The only one my arms will ever hold
I heard somebody whisper please adore me
And when i looked the moon had turned to gold

Blue moon
Now i'm no longer alone
Without a dream in my heart
Without a love of my own

Blue moon
Now i'm no longer alone
Without a dream in my heart
Without a love of my own

The Police - Walking On The Moon (1979)

From the album Reggatta de Blanc in 1979

Giant steps are what you take
Walking on the moon
I hope my legs don't break
Walking on the moon
We could walk for ever
Walking on the moon
We could live together
Walking on, walking on the moon

Walking back from your house
Walking on the moon
Walking back from your house
Walking on the moon
Feet they hardly touch the ground
Walking on the moon
My feet don't hardly make no sound
Walking on, walking on the moon

Some may say
I'm wishing my days away, no way
And if it's the price I pay, some say
Tomorrow's another day, you'll stay
I may as well play

Giant steps are what you take
Walking on the moon
I hope my legs don't break
Walking on the moon
We could walk for ever
Walking on the moon
We could be together
Walking on, walking on the moon

Some may say
I'm wishing my days away no way
And if it's the price I pay, some say
Tomorrow's another day, you'll stay
I may as well play

Henry Mancini & Johnny Mercer - Moon River (1961)

From the O.S.T of the film Breakfast at Tiffany's in 1961

Moon River, wider than a mile,
I'm crossing you in style some day.
Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker,
wherever you're going I'm going your way.
Two drifters off to see the world.
There's such a lot of world to see.
We're after the same rainbow's end--
waiting 'round the bend,
my huckleberry friend,
Moon River and me.

Bob Dylan - Tangled Up in Blue (1975)

From the album Blood on the Tracks in 1975

Early one mornin the sun was shinin,
I was layin in bed
Wondrin if shed changed at all
If her hair was still red.
Her folks they said our lives together
Sure was gonna be rough
They never did like mamas homemade dress
Papas bankbook wasnt big enough.
And I was standin on the side of the road
Rain fallin on my shoes
Heading out for the east coast
Lord knows Ive paid some dues gettin through,
Tangled up in blue.

She was married when we first met
Soon to be divorced
I helped her out of a jam, I guess,
But I used a little too much force.
We drove that car as far as we could
Abandoned it out west
Split up on a dark sad night
Both agreeing it was best.
She turned around to look at me
As I was walkin away
I heard her say over my shoulder,
Well meet again someday on the avenue,
Tangled up in blue.

I had a job in the great north woods
Working as a cook for a spell
But I never did like it all that much
And one day the ax just fell.
So I drifted down to new orleans
Where I happened to be employed
Workin for a while on a fishin boat
Right outside of delacroix.
But all the while I was alone
The past was close behind,
I seen a lot of women
But she never escaped my mind, and I just grew
Tangled up in blue.

She was workin in a topless place
And I stopped in for a beer,
I just kept lookin at the side of her face
In the spotlight so clear.
And later on as the crowd thinned out
Is just about to do the same,
She was standing there in back of my chair
Said to me, dont I know your name?
I muttered somethin underneath my breath,
She studied the lines on my face.
I must admit I felt a little uneasy
When she bent down to tie the laces of my shoe,
Tangled up in blue.

She lit a burner on the stove and offered me a pipe
I thought youd never say hello, she said
You look like the silent type.
Then she opened up a book of poems
And handed it to me
Written by an italian poet
From the thirteenth century.
And every one of them words rang true
And glowed like burnin coal
Pourin off of every page
Like it was written in my soul from me to you,
Tangled up in blue.

I lived with them on montague street
In a basement down the stairs,
There was music in the cafes at night
And revolution in the air.
Then he started into dealing with slaves
And something inside of him died.
She had to sell everything she owned
And froze up inside.
And when finally the bottom fell out
I became withdrawn,
The only thing I knew how to do
Was to keep on keepin on like a bird that flew,
Tangled up in blue.

So now Im goin back again,
I got to get to her somehow.
All the people we used to know
Theyre an illusion to me now.
Some are mathematicians
Some are carpenters wives.
Dont know how it all got started,
I dont know what theyre doin with their lives.
But me, Im still on the road
Headin for another joint
We always did feel the same,
We just saw it from a different point of view,
Tangled up in blue.

Iron & Wine - Each Coming Night (2004)

From the album Our Endless Numbered Days in 2004

Will you say when I’m gone away
"My lover came to me and we'd lay
In rooms unfamiliar but until now"
Oh oh oh oh
Until now
Oh oh oh oh
Until now

Will you say to them when I’m gone
"I loved your son for his sturdy arms
We both learned to cradle then live without"
Oh oh oh oh
Live without
Oh oh oh oh
Live without

Will you say when I’m gone away
'Your father’s body was judgment day
We both dove and rose to the riverside"
Oh oh oh oh
Riverside
Oh oh oh oh
Riverside

Will you say to me when I’m gone
"Your face has faded but lingers on
'Cause light strikes a deal with each coming night"
Oh oh oh oh
Coming night
Oh oh oh oh
Coming night
Oh oh oh oh
Coming night
Oh oh oh oh
Coming night

Blue Cheer - Summertime Blues (1968)

From the album Vincebus Eruptum in 1968

I'm gonna raise a fuss, I'm gonna raise a holler
About a workin' all summer just to try to earn a dollar
Every time I call my baby, and ask to get a date
My boss says, "No dice son, you gotta work late"
Sometimes I wonder what I'm a gonna do
But there ain't no cure for the summertime blues

Well my mom and pop told me, "Son you gotta make some money"
If you want to use the car to go ridin' next Sunday
Well I didn't go to work, told the boss I was sick
"Well you can't use the car 'cause you didn't work a lick"
Sometimes I wonder what I'm a gonna do
But there ain't no cure for the summertime blues

I'm gonna take the weeks, gonna have a fine vacation
I'm gonna take my problem to the United Nations
Well I called my congressman and he said "Whoa!"
"I'd like to help you son but you're too young to vote"
Sometimes I wonder what I'm a gonna do
But there ain't no cure for the summertime blues

Calexico - Crystal Frontier (2001)

From the album Aerocalexico in 2001

Marco's shadow falls on the door
to the 7 Lost Cities of Gold
finds a raven's head and rattler's tail
dead in his tracks, this Godforsaken soul's
unwanted here and his ghost lingers for years

Amalia's face hides behind the mask
sweating on the TV factory line
that smile on her face is starting to crack
while welding back the pieces of shattered heart
that's scattered out here, with the ghosts of her peers
searched for her lost child along the river of tears

At the end of the working week
when drunken worlds meet
both sides keeping a close eye
for a break in the line here... on the Crystal Frontier

Blood spills out on the streets
and bodies are missing for weeks
both sides keeping a close eye
watching the bullets fly here... on the Crystal Frontier

Ramon tightens up his leather belt
and slips through a hole in the fence
he can get you anything you want
might cost you a life, might cost you
the whole price of freedom here...on the Crystal Frontier

Billie Holiday - Strange Fruit (1939)

She died on July 17, 1959, 50 years ago.

"Strange Fruit" is a song performed by Billie Holiday. It condemned American racism, particularly the lynching of African Americans that had occurred chiefly in the South but also in all regions of the United States.

Southern trees bear strange fruit, (Los árboles del sur tienen un fruto extraño)
Blood on the leaves and blood at the root, (Sangre en las hojas y sangre en la raíz,)
Black bodies swinging in the southern breeze, (Cuerpos negros balanceándose en la brisa del sur,)
Strange fruit hanging from the poplar trees. (Extraño fruto que cuelga de los álamos.)

Pastoral scene of the gallant south, (Escena pastoral del galante sur,)
The bulging eyes and the twisted mouth, (Los ojos abultados, la boca torcida,)
Scent of magnolias, sweet and fresh, (El aroma de las magnolias, dulce y fresco,)
Then the sudden smell of burning flesh. (Y de pronto el olor de la carne quemada.)

Here is fruit for the crows to pluck, (Aquí está el fruto que arrancarán los cuervos,)
For the rain to gather, for the wind to suck, (Para que reciba la lluvia, para que chupe el viento,)
For the sun to rot, for the trees to drop, (Para que el sol la madure, para que los árboles la suelten,)
Here is a strange and bitter crop. (Aquí está una extraña y amarga cosecha.)

Joni Mitchell - Woodstock (1970)

From the album Ladies of the Canyon in 1970

I came upon a child of god
He was walking along the road
And I asked him, where are you going
And this he told me
Im going on down to yasgurs farm
Im going to join in a rock n roll band
Im going to camp out on the land
Im going to try an get my soul free
We are stardust
We are golden
And weve got to get ourselves
Back to the garden

Then can I walk beside you
I have come here to lose the smog
And I feel to be a cog in something turning
Well maybe it is just the time of year
Or maybe its the time of man
I dont know who l am
But you know life is for learning
We are stardust
We are golden
And weve got to get ourselves
Back to the garden

By the time we got to woodstock
We were half a million strong
And everywhere there was song and celebration
And I dreamed I saw the bombers
Riding shotgun in the sky
And they were turning into butterflies
Above our nation
We are stardust
Billion year old carbon
We are golden
Caught in the devils bargain
And weve got to get ourselves
Back to the garden

The Spencer Davis Group - I'm A Man (1967)

From the album The Chicago Transit Authority in 1969

Well my pad is very messy
And there’s whiskers on my chin
And I’m all hung up on music
And I always play to win
I ain’t got no time for lovin’
Cause my time is all used up
Just to sit around creatin’
All that groovy kind of stuff.
I’m a man
Yes I am
And I can’t help
But love you so
I’m a man
Yes I am
And I can’t help
But love you so.

Well if I had my choice of matter
I would rather be with cats
All engrossed in mental chatter
Moving where our minds are at
And relating to each other
Just how strong our wills can be
I’m resisting all involvement
With each groovy chick we see

Well I’m a man
Yes I am
And I can’t help
But love you so
I’m a man
Yes I am
And I can’t help
But love you so.

I got to keep my image
While suspended from a throne
That looks out upon a kingdom
Full of people all unknown
Who imagine I’m not human
And my heart is made of stone
I never had no problems
And my toilet’s trimmed with chrome

I’m a man
Yes I am
And I can’t help
But love you so.
I’m a man
Yes I am
And I can’t help
But love you so.

[thurston]
Everybodys talking bout the stormy weather
And whats a man do to but work out whether its true?
Looking for a man with a focus and a temper
Who can open up a map and see between one and two

Time to get it
Before you let it
Get to you

Here he comes now
Stick to your guns
And let him through

Everybodys coming from the winter vacation
Taking in the sun in a exaltation to you
You come running in on platform shoes
With marshall stacks
To at least just give us a clue
Ah, here it comes
I know its someone I knew

Teenage riot in a public station
Gonna fight and tear it up in a hypernation for you

Now I see it
I think Ill leave it out of the way
Now I come near you
And its not clear why you fade away

Looking for a ride to your secret location
Where the kids are setting up a free-speed nation, for you
Got a foghorn and a drum and a hammer thats rockin
And a cord and a pedal and a lock, thatll do me for now

It better work out
I hope it works out my way
cause its getting kind of quiet in my citys head
Takes a teen age riot to get me out of bed right now

You better look it
Were gonna shake it
Up to him

He acts the hero
We paint a zero
On his hand

We know its down
We know its bound too loose
Everybodys sound is round it
Everybody wants to be proud to choose
So whos to take the blame for the stormy weather
Youre never gonna stop all the teenage leather and booze

Its time to go round
A one man showdown
Teach us how to fail

Were off the streets now
And back on the road
On the riot trail
